Got Mine...Did You get Yours?

I posted earlier the report that KidRobot was releasing a De La Soul 3-Pack and I finally received mine. I decided to set them up and display them with the Nike Dunk SB released back in 2005, which was also inspired by their "3 Feet High and Rising" album.

Duffle Bag

I have been searching high and low for a nice weekend bag and I think I found it. But now I need to head to the lab and sell some plasma to buy it! Damn!

Wexler & co type ii duffle bag at J. Crew
The Duffle is made from the finest leather from Chicago’s legendary Horween Leather Company; expect some awesome patina with this bag.  Besides the excellent leather the bag is carefully lined with water-resistant waxed canvas.  The bag not only looks amazing, but it is meant to last a lifetime.

The Higher Learned: St. Alfred All Day

Check out this excerpt from the interview by The Higher Learned crew of my friends at Saint Alfred in Chicago

Since opening their doors in 2005, St. Alfred has brought a refreshing and blinding light into the street wear and footwear world of Chicago. Located in Wicker Park, St. Alfred’s rock solid position in the culture has garnered great loyalty from customers around the world. Recently, The Higher Learned sat down with St. Alfred’s store Manager Krabby and sales associates Dawud and Rick to speak about the influence St. Alfred has with the streetwear and footwear generation in Chicago.

THL: When did St. Alfred first open their doors?

Krabby: We opened in August of 2005.

THL: What was the main reason behind choosing the name St. Alfred? What was the inspiration?

Krabby: There are four owners of St. Alfred they picked the name. The name is actually supposed to convey the concept, so it’s almost mystic. You hear the Saint and your thinking on the religious side,  then you think Alfred and it sounds kind of formal, like European or British. The concept of St. Alfred was to be a modern classic or new men’s classic coming from street wear and escaping from that side. It’s not conforming to the corporate side of what other people are already doing. The store is very minimal, really focusing or highlighting the selection in the store. That is the meaning behind the       name St. Alfred it is to be select.

THL: Why do you think the customer’s continue to be loyal to St. Alfred?

Krabby:  As far as St. Alfred goes, we spend a lot of time trying to find brands that other people aren’t already selling. And not only brands that people aren’t selling, but good brands. Even before I was working here, that’s what I was doing. It seems like anyone who is into streetwear just appreciates design or just cool shit. It’s a passion when finding something new that you didn’t know about and bringing it to Chicago and selling it. We try to offer more of an exclusive shopping experience by not having brands that other people do, even with the footwear. Two years ago it was just all Nike, now we have A-Life, Puma, Generic Surplus, Vans. Chicago is a huge city but it’s very small at the same time. We try to make it so when you come to the store, you’ll only see certain brands here. And to me that’s the best. I used to travel to shop, because I couldn’t get it in Chicago. Any where.

Happy Birthday Steve McQueen!

I was introduced to Steve McQueen through my dad's love for classic cars.  My dad told me about this movie called Bullitt.   Along with Steve McQueen being the star, the movie featured a dark "Highland Green" 1968 Ford Mustang GT 390 CID Fastback.  This vehicle drew me to the proclaimed "King of Cool" of the 1960's.  As my affinity to vintage fashion and fashion icons progressed, Steve McQueen's image and style continually come up in the conversation. From his Tag Heuer Monoco to the Persol glasses that he rocked, Steve McQueen's "look" became classic and continues to be inspiration for many fashion houses and look books.  Hopefully, one day I can drive around in that '68 Mustang!
If you don't know go see The Magnificent Seven, The Great Escape, Bullitt, and Le Mans and get your learn on. This guys puts Brad Pitt to shame!

Happy Birthday Steve McQueen (March 24, 1930 – November 7, 1980)

Here's a few of my favorites...

First immortalized on Steve McQueen’s wrist in the 1970 racing film, Le Mans, the original Monaco, with its big, squared-off case and truly avant-garde Chronomatic Calibre 11—the first chronograph movement with an automatic micro-rotor mechanism—is a mythical icon of modern watchmaking history.
This time piece will be mine someday!!!

Nike Japan

Staying on the Japan theme this morning. I almost forgot to post these Nike Terminators that my good friend picked up for me while on her trip to Japan.

Nike Japan released a new Rivals Pack of two Terminator High Premium TZ sneakers, the TZ in the name is presumably for Tier Zero, but these shoes were sold in their respective cities.  The premium, tumbled leather appears on the toe and heel panels, while smooth leather appears elsewhere. The tongue appears to be nylon, while the heel panel appears to be made of mesh. On the heel of the right sneaker, just above a few spots of green seen through tiny perforations, the letters CTST appear, representative of “Cat Street”–a popular shopping district. On the left are the letters “HRJK” which refer to Harajyuku .The real standout part of the model is the use of neon green piping, and a glow-in-the-dark sole a la Yeezy.  These of course did not make it stateside and where available only in Harajuku, Japan. Thanks Cheryl!!!

Converse Japan

Why does Japan always get all the good stuff? I am crossing my fingers that these come stateside.

Air Jordan 1 AJKO

Air Jordan 1 is classic and timeless and the sneaker that started the sneaker obsession for most people.  In my opinion, everyone in their lives should have owned a pair of Air Jordan 1s once in their life!

Given a vintage treatment, the AJKO makes its long-awaited return this month as the classic canvas interpretation of Nike’s Air Jordan 1 finally sees a retro release. One of the franchise’s most coveted designs for the past couple of decades, the kicks maintain a distinct aura with only 5000 pairs rumored to have hit production. Both a white/red and classic Chicago Bulls colorway is featured, each seeing an official release on Saturday, March 27th.

UPDATE: Both colorways in FSR are available now on Nike.com

Pacquiao v. Clottey

Once again Manny Pacquiao disposed of another challenger. The fight was not as thrilling as his previous ass kickings he gave to Cotto, De La Hoya or Hatton, but a win is a win. Clottey didn't even attempt to throw any punches and kept his damn hands in front of his face for the entire 12 Rounds. Even the announcers and his own trainer were calling his dumb ass out to start throwing punches and FIGHT! Once again Manny made his fans and his country proud. Now bring on Mayweather! Floyd needs to shut his mouth and get in the ring!

STA x Pinoy

My good friends at Saint Alfred put together a nice Filipino Colorway of their sought after New Era caps.  With the Pac-Man fight this Saturday, I am sure these will not stay on the shelves very long.
Well done STA!!!
